Article by: Nicholas Steiner | Founder of Back 2 Basics Golf
I recently read an article on the best golf shoes which made me think about my own golf shoes/sneakers of which I really only have two pairs Ecco Biom Hybrid 2 & FootJoy Dry Joy. One for dry weather and one for wet weather. So, I thought it would be great to share with you my two favorite golf shoes and when each performs the best.
Additionally, I provide some of the key features that set these two apart and some pro tips to help you determine which golf shoe is best for your playing style and conditions. Read on to find out which two golf shoes I swear by to add that little extra bit of confidence out on the golf course.
WET WEATHER GOLF SHOES
Having a wet-weather golf shoe is important because it helps keep your feet dry and comfortable when playing in wet conditions. Wet golf courses can be slippery and dangerous, making it important to have a shoe with a good grip and superior waterproofing. Wet-weather golf shoes are also designed to provide extra cushioning and added support to keep you comfortable during your round.
This goes a long way towards preventing injuries and ensuring you are able to play your best on the course. If you're looking for a reliable wet-weather golf shoe, then the Ecco Biom Hybrid 2 is the perfect choice. The shoe is designed specifically for golfers and features a GORE-TEX waterproof membrane that keeps your feet dry and comfortable.
It also has a boa closure system, as well as a spiked hybrid sole that provides added traction on slippery surfaces. Additionally, it has extra cushioning and a comfortable fit that won't pinch or rub against your feet. Whether you are playing in the rain or just want a high-performance golf shoe, the Ecco Biom Hybrid 2 is a great option.
REASONS TO BUY
• GORE-TEX waterproof membrane: Keeps your feet dry and comfortable
• Boa closure system and spiked hybrid sole: Provides extra traction and stability
• Extra cushioning: Comfortable fit keep your feet from pinching or rubbing
• High performance: Design provides optimum performance in wet conditions
REASONS NOT TO BUY
• It is relatively expensive compared to other golf shoes
• Some customers report it runs narrow
• The boa closure system can be difficult to adjust
• Requires frequent cleaning to keep in peak condition
Wet weather golf shoes are designed to provide traction and keep your feet dry in rainy or wet conditions on the golf course.
These shoes offer specific features to enhance performance and comfort in such conditions:
a. Waterproof or water-resistant materials: Wet weather golf shoes are typically made from waterproof or water-resistant materials such as treated leather, synthetic fabrics, or waterproof membranes. These materials prevent water from seeping into the shoes, keeping your feet dry.
b. Sealed seams and closures: To further prevent water entry, wet weather golf shoes may have sealed seams or waterproof closures like zippers, Velcro, or gussets to minimize water penetration.
c. Traction and stability: These shoes feature specialized outsoles with aggressive tread patterns that provide excellent grip and stability on wet and slippery surfaces, reducing the risk of slipping during your swing or while walking the course.
d. Moisture-wicking linings: Many wet weather golf shoes incorporate moisture-wicking linings or breathable membranes to manage sweat and moisture, helping to keep your feet comfortable and dry.
Dry Weather Golf Shoes
Having a dry pair of golf shoes is important because they can provide better traction and support on the course. Wet shoes can result in slipping, sliding, and possibly losing your balance which can have disastrous consequences. Additionally, wet shoes tend to rub more, leading to blisters, soreness, and discomfort while playing. Dry shoes, on the other hand, are more comfortable and less prone to causing blisters and discomfort.
The best dry-weather golf shoe is the FootJoy DryJoys Tour. This golf shoe features a waterproof design to keep your feet dry and comfortable in warm weather, as well as a lightweight synthetic upper and a rubber outsole for enhanced traction on the course. Additionally, the DryJoys Tour features a cushioned insole for extra comfort and shock absorption.
REASONS TO BUY
• Waterproof design: Keeps feet dry in warm weather
• Lightweight: Synthetic upper for breathability
• Rubber outsole: Provides enhanced traction on the course
• Cushioned insole: Offers extra comfort and shock absorption
REASONS NOT TO BUY
• The DryJoys Tour comes with a hefty price tag
• Narrow fit as some wearers may find the fit too snug
• Limited color options in only a few standard colors
• Has a reputation for wearing out quickly
Dry weather golf shoes are designed to provide comfort, support, and breathability in normal or hot weather conditions on the golf course.
These shoes prioritize airflow, lightweight construction, and comfort features:
b. Ventilation features: These shoes may incorporate perforations, mesh panels, or breathable linings to enhance airflow and prevent excessive heat and moisture buildup.
c. Cushioning and support: Dry weather golf shoes often feature cushioned insoles, midsole technologies, and supportive structures to provide comfort and stability during your swing and while walking.
d. Traction patterns: While traction is still important, dry weather golf shoes may have less aggressive tread patterns on the outsole compared to wet weather shoes since they are primarily designed for use on dry surfaces.
Choosing the right golf shoes based on the weather conditions can help you maintain stability, comfort, and performance on the golf course. Wet weather golf shoes offer waterproofing and enhanced traction for rain or wet conditions, while dry weather golf shoes prioritize breathability and comfort in normal or hot weather.
